David Greenwald’s very positive review of Pearl Jam’s Portland concert in The Oregonian is typical of the kind of press the Seattle band has been receiving on its current tour.

Greenwald, writing about the band’s concert Friday, Nov. 29, at Portland’s Moda Center (formerly known as the Rose Garden), is generous with his praise.

“The faithful have largely turned away from rock gods,” he writes. “They have other deities now: pop divas, hip-hop moguls, floor-rattling DJs and country truckers, who outsell and out-tour all but the mightiest of their diminished Olympian colleagues. Yet Pearl Jam remains worshipped, and occasionally, superhuman. After two decades and 10 albums, the Seattle grunge act belongs to the world, and on Friday night, the Moda Center was filled with singing, fist-pumping fans who had traveled from near and far to pray at the band’s feet.”

Pearl Jam played a 34-song, three-hour-plus set, which Greenwald describes as “a feat of Springsteen-like endurance that made last week’s Nine Inch Nails show in the same venue — itself a two-hour marathon — seem like a warm-up.”

Pearl Jam performs Friday, Dec. 6, at KeyArena. The Seattle show is the only concert listed as “sold out” on the band’s website. Get the details here.
