Seattle is so awash in good bands that music will be as big a part of Seattle’s first Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon as the marathon itself.

More than 40 bands will play on nearly 30 stages along the marathon’s route from Tukwila to Qwest Field on Saturday. The race begins at 7 a.m. For details, as well as shuttle and parking information, go to the marathon Web site.

The San Diego-based Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series blends running marathons with live music in a community-wide celebration. Nearly a dozen other cities — Chicago, Phoenix, Nashville, Dallas, New Orleans and San Diego, among others — have Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathons. But Seattle likely has the best supply of up-and-coming bands, which were chosen by One Reel, producers of Bumbershoot. One of the more prominent performers is Seattle songwriter Ian McFeron and his band.

More than 25,000 runners are registered for Seattle’s marathon, which is sold out.

After the race, runners will be turning out for the Concert for the Seattle Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Marymoor Park. Keb’ Mo’ and Ryan Shaw are the featured acts at the kickoff show for the Concerts at Marymoor series. Tickets: $49.50.

Bite of Seattle for years was as much a music festival as it was an eat-a-thon.
