5 Seconds of Summer, just named New Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards, is extending its five seconds of fame.

The Australian boy band answer to Green Day (was there a question?), 5 Seconds releases its first live album, “LIVESOS” (a cry for help?), on Dec. 15. “LIVESOS” includes both a cover of “American Idiot” and the group’s new single, “What I Like About You,” a telling version of the Detroit band The Romantics’ power-pop classic.

Now, while I’ve inexplicably seen The Romantics live in all their leather-jacketed finery, I’ve never experienced 5 Seconds of Summer. That might be remedied July 24 of next year, when the boys perform at Seattle’s KeyArena as part of a tour that includes stops at Virginia’s Jiffy Lube Live (presumably, parents can get their oil changed while the kids watch the show) and Kentucky’s perhaps oxymoronic KFC Yum! Center.
