“With a Loving Eye: The Photographs of Jini Dellaccio” opens Saturday, March 31, and continues through July 29 at the Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor.

Dellaccio, 95, captured memorable, iconic images of the Northwest’s first rock bands, among them The Sonics and Wailers.

“I spent the better part of the day helping install a new exhibition by Dellaccio in her hometown museum,” art curator Larry Reid, of Seattle’s Fantagraphics book store, said in a Facebook posting.

“(She) is best known for her work in the ’60s documenting the demented regional garage rock of the Sonics, Wailers, Merrilee Rush, Neil Young and the like. This show displays the broad range of her work — stunning period portraits of diverse subjects, many in exotic locations — all with empathy, grace and conceptual clarity.”

The exhibit features large-format prints showcasing the talents of a woman considered a trendsetter in modern music photography.

Dellaccio chose many of the prints on display, and most of the images have never been on public view. An audio tour narrated by Dellaccio provides insight into the images on display.

The Harbor History Museum has partnered with the Jini Dellaccio Collection to present the exhibit of fashion, music and portrait photography.

The Jini Dellaccio Collection, founded in 2008, is dedicated to restoring, preserving and archiving Dellaccio’s photographic images.
