Rockabilly pioneer Wanda Jackson, who once dated Elvis Presley, performs tonight (Nov. 27) at the Tractor Tavern with the Marshall Scott Warner Band. Petunia and Vipers open at 9 p.m. Tickets: $18.
On Sept. 30, Oklahoma City dedicated a street to the Oklahoma native: Wanda Jackson Way. Read the story and watch a video of the ceremony here.
Jackson, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, earlier this year, has been recording an album with Jack White of the White Stripes. Read a story in the Daily Oklahoman here.
White also gave Loretta Lynn a career boost when he recorded with the famous “Coal Miner’s Daughter” in 2004.
“They had a super album, but he didn’t have her do anything different, you know,” Jackson told the Daily Oklahoman earlier this month. “She just did her little Loretta Lynn songs. But he told me he’s gonna stretch me some, so we’ll see. We’ll talk later.”
Wanda, who once dated Elvis Presley, is still one of the luminaries of rockabilly, a blend of hillbilly, country, western swing and rhythm and blues that preceded rock ‘n’ roll.
