I received a tip two weeks ago from a trustworthy music-industry source that Soundgarden was planning a reunion and, cautiously, tweeted the news.

I’m delighted that the famous Seattle grunge band is indeed getting back together and may play such festivals as the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, depending on drummer Matt Cameron’s touring schedule with Pearl Jam.

Read a report in Billboard about the reunion, which was announced on Twitter by singer-guitarist Chris Cornell. This is huge news, of course, that follows the successful reunion of another big Seattle band, Alice in Chains.

It’ll be interesting to read the back story on the Soundgarden reunion. Read my 1997 story about Soundgarden’s breakup in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. And read my backstage report from a Chris Cornell concert at the Paramount Theatre in 2007.

Watch for additional news on Soundgarden’s Web site.

What do you think of the band’s reunion? Are you excited about it? Or does it sound like a bad idea?
