British singer-songwriter Bobby Long, who got a phenomenal boost when a song he co-wrote was featured in a scene in the 2008 hit movie “Twilight,” is currently on tour in the U.S., playing songs from his upcoming debut studio album, due early next year.

The singer, guitarist and harmonica player, performing tomorrow at El Corazon, got one of those career breaks that most fledgling artists only dream about. While singing at an “open mike” at a London club, Long met Robert Pattinson, who was later chosen for the role of vampire Edward Cullen in “Twilight.” Pattinson ended up singing “Let Me Sign,” written by Long and Marcus Foster, for one of the movie’s key scenes.

Backed by a band for the first time, Long hit the road June 15 in New York City and has been criss-crossing the country doing gigs with and without the band. The tour includes a show tomorrow at El Corazon, where Long performs solo. The lineup includes He Is We, shyforshy, Lakeview Drive, Dylan Jakobsen and Blake Cowan (Falling Is The Sky). Tickets are $13 in advance at TicketsWest. Doors open at 7 p.m.

“I’m looking at the show with a band as another chapter in this adventure,” Long said in a news release. “I played guitar in a band when I first started performing music, but it was before I wrote my own material.

“It will be an exciting experience for me to add fresh elements to my songs like I was able to do when I was recording the album.”

“Dirty Pond Songs,” a collection of 10 songs that he recorded at his own apartment and sold at live shows, has sold more than 10,000 copies. The songs’ dreamy poignancy connected with fans in a big way. Long’s MySpace page has generated 2 million page views.

Indeed, “Dirty Pond Songs” brought Long a big following, finding their way to “adult album alternative” (or “triple A”) stations in the U.S. and placing him on National Public Radio’s “World Cafe” national broadcast in April.

Now signed to ATO Records (as of April), Long is completing work on his first studio record, which was produced by Liam Watson, who won a Grammy Award for “Elephant” by the White Stripes. Long and Watson began recording at Watson’s analog studio, Toe Rag Studios, in London amid Longs’ crazy 2009 tour, which included 160 headlining shows in seven months in seven countries.

The new song “Dead and Done” has a gentle but unmistakable power. Listen to it on Long’s MySpace page by clicking here.
