The Jimi Hendrix 70th Birthday Charity Gala and Art Show will feature performances by brother Leon Hendrix, as well as Hendrix tribute musician Randy Hansen.
The event Nov. 27 at Renton’s Carco Theatre will celebrate the career of the rock icon and Seattle native, as well as raise money for at-risk-youth programs at the Hendrix Music Academy, a nonprofit educational charity founded by Jimi Hendix’s niece, Tina Hendrix, in 2009.
The academy’s mission is to provide music education, intervention and mentoring programs for at-risk youth to help reduce juvenile delinquency, crime and violence in local communities.
Each year, the Hendrix Music Academy has provided teens with musical instruments and instruction, music scholarships and intervention services. Since 2009, students in the program have recorded more than 500 original songs.
