Seattle rapper Macklemore has reached another milestone in his skyrocketing career: the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

In a story by Rolling Stone senior writer Brian Hiatt, Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis are pictured sitting on a railing on a deck above Elliott Avenue West, with the old P-I globe in the background.

On the magazine’s cover, Macklemore is smiling and looking very clean-cut.

The story begins with Macklemore, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, ordering a non-alcoholic “Coke with grenadine” (also known as a Roy Rogers) at a downtown waterfront restaurant in Seattle.

“You feel like a 6-year-old if you order a Roy Rogers,” he says in the story.

In the in-depth story, Ryan Lewis says, “Fame is wearing on (Macklemore) in private. In public he tries as hard as he can not to be an asshole. Nobody wants to a Kanye, you know?”

In another quote, Macklemore talks about his image: “I’m cussing my ass off, but because I’m a white guy, parents feel safe. Would success have been the same if I were black? The answer is no.”
