Brandi Carlile, Clarence Acox, Scott Brown and Gerard Schwarz will be honored at the second annual City of Music Awards Oct. 6 at Showbox at the Market.

The awards will kick off the first City of Music Festival, featuring a month of musical performances by hundreds of artists from Seattle’s diverse music community.

Performers at the awards show include Northern Departure & M.O.V. (from Seattle Theatre Group’s More Music @ The Moore), a Garfield and Roosevelt High School All-Star Jazz collaboration in honor of Acox and Brown, a Big Brass Tribute to Gerard Schwarz and a special pre-recorded live video performance by Carlile, who is on tour and will be unable to attend the event.

Awards recipients were chosen by the 21-member Seattle Music Commission.

Tickets are free through Ticketmaster, but quantities are limited.

“Seattle is a great city for music,” Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said in a statement. “It’s a part of our history. It’s a part of our everyday life. And it must be a part of our future.”

“I’m excited to see the City of Music effort continue to grow and involve more facets of our thriving music community.”
