The Seattle City of Music Awards show makes its debut tonight with a gala honoring Quincy Jones, Fleet Foxes and KEXP-FM.

The program at Showbox at the Market includes performances by The Maldives (chosen by KEXP to perform in the station’s honor), Pearly Gate Music, Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, More Music @ the Moore and Tea Cozies, who perform at the after party at 9:30 p.m.

A family friend will accept Jones’ award, and the legendary, Seattle-bred producer will appear in a thank-you video.

Master-of-ceremonies is Riz Rollins, known to Seattle radio listeners as DJ Riz. The physical award was created by Seattle glass artist Dale Chihuly.

Tickets, which were available free of charge to the public, unfortunately are all gone.

Making its debut last fall, the Seattle City of Music program promotes Seattle’s music industry and celebrates its super-achievers, such as Jones. Aside from the Seattle City of Music kickoff, this is the campaign’s highest-profile event. The evening begins with “red carpet arrivals” from 6:45-7:25 p.m., followed by awards at 7:30 p.m. and a finale at 9:15 p.m. The after-show event with Tea Cozies begins at 9:30 p.m.

The event also kicks off the Grammy MusicTech Summit Thursday and Friday.
